How it works

PM hours from 1 to 11: add 12 (3 PM = 1500). 12 PM (noon) stays 1200. 12 AM (midnight) becomes 0000. AM hours from 1 to 11 keep their number with a leading zero (9 AM = 0900). To go back, subtract 12 from hours 13 to 23 and write PM.

Worked examples

  1. 7:05 PM → 7 + 12 = 19 → 1905.
  2. 12:30 AM → midnight hour → 0030.
  3. 1545 → 15 − 12 = 3 → 3:45 PM.
