Minimum Wage Calculator by State: is my pay above the minimum? (2026)
Choose your state, enter your hours and gross pay, and compare your effective hourly rate with the higher of the selected state rate and the federal minimum. This check assumes your employer is covered by the FLSA.
This check does not cover tipped employees, the under-20 training wage, higher city or county minimums, or exemptions. It compares gross pay before taxes and deductions; it does not calculate overtime or establish a legal wage claim.
Applicable minimum = the higher of your selected state rate and the federal rate. Effective hourly pay = gross pay ÷ hours for total pay, rounded half up to cents. Hourly shortfall = minimum − effective hourly pay, floored at zero. Period shortfall = minimum × hours − total pay for total pay, or hourly shortfall × hours for an hourly rate, rounded to cents.
Worked examples
A state with no minimum wage law uses the federal floor when the employer is covered by the FLSA.
If a listed state rate is lower than the federal minimum, the federal minimum applies under the FLSA.
If your gross pay divided by hours is below the applicable minimum, the tool shows the hourly and period shortfall.
